Foraged Cordage & Basketry
For over 50,000 years, humans have hand-twisted fibers into twine and cordage. It turns out, you can too! Spend part of the morning foraging 20 acres of pristine Kansas farm and woodland for twine and basketry materials. We’ll bring our found materials back to the workshop where fiber artist and expert Liz Bonny will teach us how to turn native plants into cordage and small baskets.
Student bring a good pair of close-toed walking shoes and clothes that can get dirty.
8-9 - Meet & greet - grab a donut and coffee!
9-10 - Foraging walk led by grounds manager Steven Condon
10-1 - Liz Bonny teaches us about cordage and basketry
1-2 - Extra time slated for finishing up projects and tips & tricks
Liz Bonny is a weaver, dyer, and spinner located in Lawrence, KS. She owns and runs Harvestry by Hand, a fiber business aiming to connect and educate people interested in fiber. She loves to experiment with and teach process, using a mix of local and thrifted materials and supplies. Liz hosts a Fiber Meet Up, and is President of her local Kaw Valley Fiber Guild and the Kaw Point Fibershed.
